About the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card

The Scotland Loves Local Gift Card ensures that your money stays local for longer. It is a present not just to someone personally, but their community, allowing it to prosper. It encourages consumers to think local first – supporting the businesses around them, protecting local jobs and making their communities stronger.

The card is being rolled out across all of the country’s 32 local authority areas as part of the Scotland Loves Local campaign in 2021, spearheaded by Scotland’s Towns Partnership (STP), with the support of the Scottish Government and working with Perth-based fintech Miconex. The card provides a much-needed boost to local businesses as they emerge from the difficulties of the past year of Covid-19 restrictions as high streets reopen and they can resume trading. Spending through a Scotland Loves Local Gift Card has multiplier effects which go far beyond the point of purchase. Using the card keeps people within their area, supporting many businesses as they buy. Our research shows that two-thirds of money spent in the local economy is spent locally further supporting local jobs and making local businesses more sustainable. Statistics show that those who receive a card in actual fact spend 65% more than its value when they go out to use it. This is worth millions of pounds to Scotland’s economy.
